Hello friends,

My name is Leo, I came to Canada on Sept. 2004 from Mexico to claim refugee status based on persecution for my sexual orientation as a gay man. My refugee claim was rejected and right now I got a call-in interview with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), for the purpose of initiating my application for a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA) application. In other words: MY DEPORTATION!

Right know we are working on a Campaign called "LET LEO STAY". Part of my Campaign is to raise awareness about the more than 1000 gays and lesbians murdered, executed in Mexico for the past 12 years, and to talk about Refugee issues in Canada.

In Mexico there is a wide prevalence of intolerance and discrimination towards LGBTT (lesbian, bay, bisexual, transgender and transsexual) people within Mexican society. The country continues to be predominantly anti-LGBTT with no evidence of upcoming change.

Since my arrival in Canada I have been working helping to improve my Community. As member of several organizations like Amnesty International LGBT Toronto Group, Toronto Youth Cabinet, Youth Action Network, Supporting Our Youth, Canadian Council for Refugees and many others to connect with other youth and represent my communities as Gay (and proud), Latino, Refugee, Immigrant and Newcomer.
